The steel alloy of grade 8620 is also called nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel. It is a sturdy alloy, largely composed of carbon, with many uses in the manufacturing trades. Properly hardened and formed, it can be used to make hard-wearing machine parts.
1045 also know as EN8 steel. it belongs to Unalloyed medium carbon steel grade. Furthermore, 1045 is a good strengh steel, have good tensile and easy to heat treatment. And it is widely use to shafts, pins, studs, keys, bearing and so on. Moreover, it equivalent to AISI 1045 steel, WN-r 1.1191, JIS S45C G4051, DIN CK45, GB 45#.
Alloy Steel 8620 Grade Summary: Nickel imparts good toughness and ductility, chromium and molybdenum contribute increased hardness penetration and wear. They are readily carburized and the well-balanced alloy content permits hardening to produce a strong, tough core and high case hardness.
C45 Steel Application. 1045 steel is widely used for the industry application that required higher strength and wear resistance than low-carbon steel. And the typical applications are gears, shafts, rolls, crankshafts, sockets, bolts and etc. 1045 Steel Supply Range. Round Bar. Specification: diameter: Max 800mm; length: Max 9m
1045 vs 4140 Steel Comparison Our 1045 and 4140 grade steels are both very popular options here at Capital Steel & Wire, and we often get questions related to their differences. 1045 and 4140 have distinct chemical and mechanical characteristics which make them valuable for different applications.

ASTM A514, 1045 Steel 1040 vs 1045 Steel Comparison | Capital Steel & Wire. The majority of 1040 and 1045 steel is purchased in cold drawn state, but we provided graphs of both hot rolled and cold drawn mechanical properties for both 1040 and 1045. Here is a comparison chart of 1040 and 1045 hot rolled steel mechanical properties:[PDF]
Alloy steel 8620 is a case-hardening steel containing nickel, chromium and molybdenum as alloying elements. This alloy may be used in the production of medium-strength parts such as forged camshafts, fasteners and gears. This alloy is forged at a start temperature of around 2250F (1230C).
ASTM AISI 1045 Steel is a medium carbon, medium tensile steel supplied as hot rolled, forged or normalized. Otai special steel supply 1045 round bar, plate, steel rods, steel bars, hexagonal bar, flat bar, square, pipe/tube. Regarding the specific dimension, please contact our professional team. 1045 Round Bar.
Steel alloy 8620 is a popular carburizing alloy, ideal for parts that require both toughness and ductility. It has very high external and internal strength, making it extremely wear resistant. Extensive surface carving is not ideal for 8620; however, it responds well to polishing. 8620 has a machining cost factor of 2.9 when compared to steel , 1045 steel vs 8620 supply
You can feel the difference in a Scratch 8620 vs a Scratch 1018 wedge. 1018 is almost virtually identical to 1020, and there's actually a rather lengthy thread on here back when TourSpec golf claimed to have tested a Scratch 1018 and it came up as something other than 1018 steel according to his test.
Steel with increased carbon content can be made harder and stronger than iron, but such steel is also less ductile than iron. General: Carbon steel are regarded as steels containing not more than 0,5% manganese and 0,5% silicon, all other steel being regarded as alloy steel, Stainless Steel Tube.

Property 8620 vs 8620H. As 8620 steel material could be case hardened, so the hardness could be different after hardening. AISI 8620 can be supplied in H condition with required hardenability. Strict analytical limits provide controlled response from heat to heat, making it an ideal selection for production case hardened parts, where , 1045 steel vs 8620 supply
8620 is quite popular for carburization, so I don't see your problem with afterwards carburization process. But 8620 typicall has 0.5% Ni vs. 2.0% of 43XX. Ni will give you excellent impact toughness. So maybe you won't have enough toughness, unless currently you have plenty to cut down.
Weldability of 8620 may be slightly worse than 4130. Calculate their actual carbon equivalents and you will see. Both 4130 and 8620 won't be straightforward on welding as they may require pre-heat and post weldment heat treatment, depends on the parent material heat treatment and your joint design.
8620 is a low alloy case hardening steel which is supplied to American standard SAE 8620 and AISI 8620. 8620 can be carburised, which will achieve a tough core with a hard wear resistant case. 8620 provides a combination of toughness and wear resistance. 8620 is supplied in either the as rolled or annealed condition for subsequent case hardening.
Both normalized SAE-AISI 8620 and SAE-AISI 8640 steel are iron alloys. Their average alloy composition is basically identical. For each property being compared, the top bar is normalized SAE-AISI 8620 and the bottom bar is SAE-AISI 8640 steel.
Suppliers of High Quality, Low Cost Steel Bar Products. Summit Steel maintains an inventory of both hot rolled and cold finished alloy and carbon steel bar products. . Material is purchased and manufactured to ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) specifications to ensure the highest quality for our c
Has anyone used 8620 steel, in place of 4130 or 4140, for their actions? It is supposed to be easier to machine and more stable in heat treating. This is the material that M14 receivers were made of. the falling block guys use it a lot because it is easier to calor case harden. Posted: Mar. 15 2007, 06:22 ET
